HAFLINGERS
Haflingers originated in the Tyrolean Mountains of Austria as a cross between a native mountain mare and a half Arabian stallion.  They are named after the village of Hafling, which is located today near Meran, Italy.  They were first imported int the United States in the late 50s.
Haflingers will catch your eye with their striking beauty.  They are golden chestnut in color with long, flowing, white or flaxen mane and tails.  Their average height is between 55 and 60 inches tall.
Although their beauty is what usually catches everyone's eye, it is their exceptional temperament that makes them such a wonderful family horse.  They are dependable, very friendly and willing to please. They are also very curious and inquisitive giving them lots of personality.
The origin of the Haflinger has made it a very hardy, easy-keeper.  Don't be fooled by their  height.  They are built strong and are often used as pack or work horses.  This makes it an excellent choice for families who are looking for a horse for both the children and the adults of the family.  Children are usually drawn to them and do not seem to be intimidated by them.
All of these characteristics are wonderful traits of the Haflinger.  However, we have found our favorite trait is their versatility.  Our Haflingers are used by all of our family members as well as many friends.  We have used them for trail riding, jousting, gymkhana, jumping, driving, and showing.  They have been successfully shown in English Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Dressage, Jumping and Pleasure Reinsmanship.
